Diversity management in employment

The project addressed five discrimination grounds: race and ethnic origin, disability, age, religion or belief and sexual orientation. Human diversity, which too often causes conflicts and generates discrimination, can actually become a source of creativity in employment, especially with the use of an inclusive approach. A limitation of diversity brings the loss of rich potentials, knowledge, skills, capabilities and experience of a diverse and talented workforce. Companies are increasingly recognizing that diversity is not just a moral argument or a question of meeting legal obligations.

In the framework of the project the training program for Employers and Trade Unions was organized with the purpose of encouraging them to adapt and implement a diversity management and non-discrimination policy in their framework. The other major target group was the general public – citizens of Slovenia, including politicians, whom we addressed with systematic promotion activities and a national awareness raising campaign, consisting of special websites, banners, TV and radio advertisements and billboards. The project publication was issued in the form of a manual entitled “Diversity Management in Employment, Guidelines for Employers and Trade Unions”, which describes diversity as a cause of discrimination, prejudices and stereotypes regarding age, disablement, race and ethnicity. The emphasis is on implementation of diversity policies and principles of diversity management, as well as on legislation in that field.
